Discuss and take appropriate action to accept funding from Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for acquisition of a conservation easement for the remainder of Cobb Cavern and to authorize closing on the easement.

Background

As a part of environmental mitigation for State Highway 195 TxDOT has agreed to provide funding to acquire a conservation easement under the county’s Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP). The acquisition will be completed by the county and will be recognized as a Karst Fauna Area (KFA) under the auspices of the HCP and the WCCF.

The WCCF previously (7/19/11) was authorized to expend $275,000 to begin the acquisition on the easement property through an option. The funding from TxDOT will reimburse the WCCF for this expenditure and for related expenses incurred in securing this easement.
