To discuss and consider approving a request for exception for the District Attorneys office.

Background

Recently, the Commissioners Court approved an FTE for the DA Office as a Victim Witness Coordinator. The position had transitioned from a grant-funded position. The FTE was approved as a 20/1.

The DA is requesting two changes:

1) Shift the new FTE (Victim Witness Coordinator) from a 20/1 to a 18/1. Based on conversations with the HR Director, this is a more appropriate salary for that individual, given their experience and training and the job description.

2) Move the remainder of the new FTE funding to the other Victim Witness Coordinator Position, held by Irene Odom, who is currently a 21/7, and change her to a 22/8, so that her salary more accurately reflects her role as a supervisor of two employees. She will be supervising the new FTE and another Victim Witness Coordinator who is grant-funded. This is particularly needed because Irene Odom, in addition to providing victim services and supervisory work, conducts certified Spanish translations of documents, recordings and conversations for our office. She regularly saves substantial expenditures by doing those translations in-house.

These changes work within the funding already approved by the Commissioners Court and will not result in any additional expenditures. The recommendations are made after detailed consultation with the HR Director.
