Agenda Item
Consider appointing Steven Rundell to serve on the Emergency Service District Board number one to begin effective immediately and a for a two year to begin on Jan. 1, 2012 to Dec. 31, 2013.
Background
On January 1, 2009 the City of Austin annexed a portion of ESD #1, at the time, 4 out of 5 of the board members resided in the area that was annexed. Currently, ESD #1 lies entirely within Pct. 1.

In order to comply with the provisions of the Texas Health and Safety Code, Vernon Civil Statutes, § 775.034 the court must appoint 5 board members. On January 5, 2009 the Commissioners Court appointed Adam Bryant, Darryl Phillips and Mack Sherrod to serve on the board, with their two year terms to expire in 2011. On Oct. 20, 2009, the court approved the appointment of Laura T. Golding to board for a two year term to begin on Jan. 1, 2010.

Currently there are 4 board members. Today we ask the court to consider the appointment of Steven Rundell to begin effective immediately and to serve a two year term to begin on Jan. 1, 2012 and expire on Dec. 31, 2013. This will bring the board to complete 5 member board.

Steven Rundell has worked in both a commissioned and non-commissioned role for the Texas Department of Public Safety since 1987. He received his commission as a state trooper in January of 1999, was promoted to Sgt. after 5 years, and has moved through the ranks to Captain. He currently serves on the staff of the Chief of the Texas Highway Patrol at the Headquarters building in Austin and is the assistant to the head of the Department’s commercial vehicle enforcement program.

Mr. Rundell has attended board meetings and is familiar with the duties of the ESD Board. He resides in the service area and comes highly recommended by Chief Kiracofe as well as the other current board members.

Commissioner Birkman has interviewed Mr. Rundell and also recommends his appointment.

His bio as well as completed ESD Board Member application is attached.
