Information
Agenda Item
Discuss and take appropriate action on resolution regarding Fall Prevention Awareness Week.
Background
Governor Rick Perry signed House Bill 703 into law, creating Fall Prevention Awareness Week to be held September 21st - 25th.  The bill recommends programs and policies be developed to promote reduction of falls and create an increase in fall prevention awareness.

Williamson County's population for those 60 years of age and older has increased from 24,718 during the US Census of 2000, to approximately 48,640 during the July 2008 Census estimate.  One out of three senior citizens will fall this year, with falls contributing to 40% of all nursing home admissions.  Falls monetarily cost our nation $19 billion dollars annually, but this does not reflect the emotional and psychological burdens that are also placed on senior citizens, their families and caregivers by those falls.   With Williamson County's aging population it is important to recognize Fall Prevention Awareness Week and the need to reduce fall hazards.
