Discuss and consider approving a change in a Vote Center location in Taylor, Texas, for the 2013 November elections.

Background

At the regular session of Commissioners' Court of Williamson County, Texas, held July 16, 2013, the Taylor VFD Hall, 701 NW Carlos G. Parker Blvd., Taylor, Texas, was approved by the Court as a polling place Vote Center location for the 2013 November elections. Originally, the Elections Office had been told there would be $0.00 fee associated with using that facility. Subsequently, we have been advised that the Board voted to charge $100 per hour for the rental of the Taylor VFD Hall for use on Election Day, 11/5/2013.

We are proposing Main Street Events Center, 3101 N. Main St., Taylor, Texas, be the designated Vote Center in place of the Taylor VFD Hall. Main Street Events Center, formerly known as Taylor High School, is 2.6 miles from the Taylor VFD Hall, about 5 minutes. The members of the Vote Center Committee have been contacted about the proposed change. No objections have been raised. The location meets the Vote Center Committee's poll site criteria for serving as a Vote Center polling location.
