Hear presentation on status of listing action by US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) for Williamson County salamander species, and an update on latest actions by the Williamson County Conservation Foundation (WCCF) and its salamander task force, and discuss and take appropriate action on a resolution to be presented at USFWS scheduled public hearings.

Background

The USFWS plans to host two public hearings regarding the possible listing under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) of four central Texas salamanders (Eurycea sp.), three of which affect Williamson County and are addressed in the proposed resolution. These hearings* will provide one mechanism for conveying Williamson County’s position on the proposed listing. This presentation will recap the past 12 months of activities by the WCCF and its listing response team. Action to be considered will be a resolution outlining the WCCF’s and Williamson County’s opposition to a proposed listing under the ESA based on a significant lack of scientific evidence supporting any of the ESA’s listing criteria.

* As of 8-14-12 the USFWS has set September 5 (Round Rock) and September 6 (Austin) as the tentative dates, subject to change, for the public hearings.
