Consider approving by separate vote of the commisioner's court the ratification of the property tax increase reflected in the budget for Williamson County for FY09.

Background

HB-3195, effective 1Sept07, requires the court to ratify any increase in property taxes reflected in the budget adopted in item 2 above by separate vote. The bill also requires that the proposed budget contain a cover with the following statement: "This budget will raise more total property taxes than last year's budget by (insert total dollar amount of increase and percentage increase), and of that amount (insert amount computed by multipyling the proposed tax rate by the value of new property added to the roll) is a tax revenue to be raised from the new property added to the tax roll this year." This must be done every fiscal year at budget adoption.
