Discuss and consider approving a request to increase the Jury Replenishment Fund from $1,500 to $2,500 for Justice of the Peace Pct. 3.

Background

As a result of the increased number of Jury Trial requests, we are scheduling multiple Jury Trials on any given day. This may cause the trial(s) to be extended to the next day. Because we summon an adequate number of prospective jurors to accommodate the selection process for each trial, Judge Gravell has requested an increase in the Jury Fund by $1,000. This is a cash fund that is replenished as it gets low by expensing to the Juror line item in the JP 3 budget. The request is to increase the change fund not the budget. The increased jury trials is depleting the fund too quickly.

The increase would be the fund up to a $2,500 balance to compensate prospective jurors appearing for the selection process which consists of $10.00 for the first day, including the jury panel selected, and $40.00 for each additional day of service, if applicable.
