Discuss and take action on the implmentation of a burn ban for a period not to exceed 90 days and to authorize the County Judge to lift the ban if drought conditions improve.

Background

Williamson County continues to experience drought conditions. As of June 28, 2013 the Keetch Byrum Drought Index is an average of 545, with a high of 675 and low 434. The Palmer and US Drought Index indicates severe to extreme drought conditions across the County. The lack of rainfall and sustained temperatures greater than 100 creates conditions that are favorable for the rapid and uncontrolled spread of wildfire. This type of fire can immediately threaten the safety and health of others and have an impact on the environment.
