Discuss and take appropriate action on modifying the 2012/2013 budget order to allow for supplemental pay for on-call Technology Services staff.

Background

This supplement is for exempt Technology Services personnel who support the Public Safety systems. These systems are in use 24/7 and are now critical to the operations of 7 law enforcement agencies (soon to be 8), EMS, MOT and other Emergency Services personnel, 6 fire departments (soon to be 12) as well as Emergency Communications.

The supplement amount is $100 per week for one employee at a time and will rotate between staff on a weekly basis.

The complexity of the systems (20+ servers, hundreds of laptops, PCs and devices, and a dozen software packages) means that there are many variables, and therefore issues do arise at any hour of the day. With hundreds of users depending on the systems, there are some issues that cannot wait until the next business day.

The 24-hour call number has been active for a few months now, and for reference, in the past 31 days we have taken 41 calls on the 24-hour number.
