Information
Agenda Item

Hear presentation from Williamson County Elections Administrator, Rick Barron and take appropriate action regarding the effects of SB 100 on local May elections.

Background

Texas State Legislature enacted Senate Bill 100 to facilitate the voting process for Military and overseas voters.  This was adopted to bring Texas into compliance with the 2009 federal Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment Act. ("MOVE")

The bill puts more time between March primaries and April runoffs.

This could affect the way we run elections, for local cities, school districts and other entities.

SB 100 mandates ballots be mailed 45 days before elections.

SB 100 also moves up the filing period from March 2012 party primaries. Effective this year, what had been December-to-January filing period will now become November-to-December filing period.
