Acknowledge and take appropriate action as needed regarding Williamson County Conservation Foundation acquisition of a conservation easement covering an additional portion of Cobb Cavern, an endangered species habitat feature.
Background
At its February 9, 2001 board meeting the Williamson County Conservation Foundation (WCCF) voted unanimously to authorize expenditure of $275,000 of WCCF funds to purchase and acquire additional conservation easement land adjacent to the existing Cobb Cavern preserve conservation easement. This expenditure is part of a larger acquisition to be completed in the future to provide for a Karst Faunal Area (KFA) in the north Williamson County Karst Faunal Region as provided for in the county's Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP).

The WCCF presently holds a conservation easement of 64.4 acres and this acquisition will add 14.9 adjacent acres to the easement and will encompass additional critical features of the cavern.

It is expected that the Texas Department of Transportation will, out of federal dedicated funds, facilitate funding for the dedicated, express and sole purpose of acquiring the remainder of the Cobb Cavern conservation easement. This will complete the acquisition of this KFA as a part of environmental mitigation for SH 195 under the county's HCP.
