Consider approving Change Order No. 5 for US 79 Section 5B (Wilco Project No. 08WC607), a Pass Through Financing Project in Precinct 4.

Background

This change order provides payment to totally reconstruct concrete box Culvert #11 in lieu of merely extending the existing structure at each end per the original plans.

Prior to construction on the existing three (3) barrel 10’x6’ structure, it was discovered that the bottom of the top slab in each of the three barrels had deteriorated beyond repair. There was an approximate 8’x10’ area in each barrel in which the reinforcing steel was exposed and had apparently been deteriorating for a number of years. Upon inspection by TxDOT, TxDOT requested that the entire culvert be reconstructed.

In addition, this change order provides payment to install rock riprap near culvert headwalls and in ditches in order to reduce the amount of erosion caused by rain events.

As required by the Pass Through Financing Agreement, TxDOT has concurred with this Change Order.
