Agenda Item
Discuss, consider and take appropriate action on resolution recognizing Thursday, June 12, 2014 as "International Elder Abuse Awareness Day" in Williamson County and recognize candlelight vigil to be held at St. John's United Methodist  Church in Georgetown at 6:00 P.M. to commemorate victims of elder abuse.
Background
The Williamson County Special Task Unit began in June of 2006 in response to Senate Bill 6 from the 79th Texas Legislature, Regular Session, which mandated that all counties over 250,000 implement a Special Task Unit  (STU) to discuss complex cases of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of the elderly or disabled.  The STU was formed to meet the needs of the community, with the concept that sharing expertise from a variety of disciplines and agencies would improve collaboration and would allow for more successful outcomes.  The Williamson County STU was one of the first in the state to be formed and it continues to this day.  It is often looked to as one of the most successful STU's in the state, and has active participation from many agencies, departments, as well as senior advocate volunteers from the community.
