Hear presentation from and recognize Eagle Scout candidate Brody J. Watson, for his Eagle Scout project work on a protective filter dam for the Twin Springs Preserve.

Background

Life Scout Brody Watson approached the Parks and Recreation Department and the Williamson County Conservation Foundation (WCCF) about an appropriate service project to meet the requirement for his Eagle Scout Rank. This agenda item provides an opportunity for Brody to relate his experience in working with Williamson County and for the Court to recognize his work and achievements.

Requirement #5 for the rank of Eagle Scout states in part, "While a Life Scout, plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, any school, or your community.” (The project should benefit an organization other than Boy Scouting.) The project plan must be approved by the organization benefiting from the effort, your Scoutmaster and troop committee, and the council or district before you start."

Brody's project consisted of planning and constructing a protective rock filter dam above the main spring at Twin Springs Preserve, a known location for the Georgetown salamander. The spring run was severely scoured by rains that occurred during Tropical Storm Hermine. His project required a significant amount of planning and coordination and included 126.4 volunteer hours for the WCCF. His project will protect the habitat area for the species from future excessive rainfall events
