Information
Agenda Item
Discuss and consider approving training requirements for election poll workers and pay increases for election poll workers.
Background
Over the years, with the addition of the required voting machines, use of computers for processing voters, multiple political jurisdictions contracting with the Elections Office to conduct their general and special elections, and changes in election law and procedures, conducting elections has become more complicated.  In our mission to better serve the voters, we are submitting this request for approval of training requirements for election judges and clerks.

And, further, since the hourly rate of pay to election judges and clerks has not increased since 2004, we are submitting a request to increase the hourly rate paid to these poll workers.  The requested "Mobile Team" rate is higher than that requested for the other early voting poll workers.  The reasoning for that is because the Mobile Team must travel daily from their homes to the temporary, part-time, early voting polling locations throughout the County (i.e., Bartlett, Granger, Jarrell, Florence, Coupland, and other locations).  Each day of early voting that has a temporary, part-time location, they have to set up, then take down, everything related to the set-up for that site serving as an early voting polling location.
