Discuss and consider cable TV policy in county facilities.

Background

Currently there is no policy in the county in regards to cable television in county offices or county waiting areas. At this time Commissioner Birkman would like to discuss as to whether or not we should adopt a policy and the details of such a policy and if in fact we should use county funds for cable television in the Tax Assessor Collector’s Office or other county waiting rooms. The reason this has come up now is that when the Jester Annex was being built we were asked by EMS to install a cable line to their building. It is standard that EMS have cable television in their living areas. Since the cable line was already going to be coming to the adjacent building, we had it also run to the main building. At that point, the tax office and the constable’s office asked to have cable in their individual offices. Commissioner Birkman suggested that cable be installed in the community room only as it is available there to all departments and also to the public. However, now, Deborah Hunt would still like to install and have cable in the waiting room of her office in the building. She has offered to pay for this out of a discretionary fund that goes to her office.
Since there is no current policy regarding this request, and it has the potential to set a precedent since other offices may also want to install cable television in their waiting rooms, Commissioner Birkman would like to suggest the court set a policy for all county facilities.
