Discuss and take possible action on submitting comments to the Texas Department of Transportation's Statewide Long-Range Transportation Plan-2035

Background

TxDOT is updating the long-range, multimodal statewide transportation plan.
The new Statewide Long-Range Transportation Plan 2035 will serve as the state's 24-year "blueprint" for the planning process. It will guide the collaborative efforts between TxDOT, local and regional decision-makers and all transportation stakeholders to reach a consensus on transportation needs.

This is a collaborative process involving TxDOT, metropolitan areas, cities, counties, the travelling public and various public and private transportation organizations.

As part of the public involvement opportunities to provide input and comments, Commissioner Birkman would ask that the court support the attached document encouraging the state to examine carefully the manner in which state and federal funds are allocated and spent to accurately take into account the great need in the fast growing areas of the state. The comments urge the state to appropriate the needed funds to maintain the state highway system.

The comment document suggest that TxDOT needs to put projects on the ground quicker. To do this the process in which environmental clearance is obtained needs to be streamlined and significantly improved.

Several public involvement opportunities are available for the public to provide input and to comment.
