Discuss and consider approving a line item transfer for DPS Georgetown

Background

We have one full Admin-Tech position open. Respectfully, I would like to request a Temporary Worker position be created instead of filling the full time position.

It will require moving monies from line item 001100 Salaries into line item 001107 Temporary Labor/Seasonal.

I believe this will save money for the current fiscal year, if allowed to move existing funds in the Salaries line item into a line item for pay for a Temporary worker position.

Initially the temporary worker would primarily assist the Sergeant/Supervisor with an Evidence Inventory and Relocation project. The worker will Inventory the current video evidence room prior to relocation to larger more secure area. Assist supervisor to set up new system for intake and tracking of all video evidence. Then move on to performing the same inventory and reorganization tasks for the Entrusted Property/Evidence Room. The temporary worker would be available to assist staff in work over-flow and high volume of telephone calls as needed.

In response to your requests to reduce the amount of Budget Requests in the next fiscal year; as a cost saving measure, we plan to eliminate the full time position and request a permanent part time position in its place. Redistributing the duties of current staff and the addition of the part-time position would keep the office functioning smoothly without overburdening the current staff.

It is our hope that this change would be a significant saving to the budgeted funds the County allows for our Department. (Sgt. Michael Smith)
