Agenda Item
Discuss the disposal of Household Hazardous Waste.
Background
Upon request from many constituents Commissioner Birkman has been looking into options for citizens in the unincorporated areas of the county to participate in a program that would offer Household Hazardous Waste Collection. Our office has been working with the City of Round Rock and they are willing to discuss working with Williamson County on a joint Household Hazardous Waste Day. (HHW Day) This would involve Williamson County entering into an Interlocal Agreement with the City of Round Rock.
Round Rock currently has a permanent collection facility located on Deepwood Drive. Only residential HHW is accepted. Participants in the program would also be eligible to use the city recycling facility and the city HHW reuse program. The cost would be issued on a per participant basis and would be determined by the City of Round Rock’s actual costs to provide the service. The cost would then be reviewed at least annually. Citizen participation would be managed via a voucher system. (see attached)
**Please note the cost on the memo from the City of Round Rock is approximate figures.
Williamson County’s last countywide Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day was held in November of 2006. They serviced approximately 550 car loads at a cost of approximately $54,000.
