Agenda Item
Discuss and take appropriate action regarding the appointment of a Law Library Committee to establish and maintain a county law library in accordance with Chapter 323 of the Local Government Code and authorizing the Law Library Committee to interview architects in order to recommend to the Williamson County Commissioners Court the hiring of a selected architect.
Background
Tommy Coleman would like to form an advisory committee to review and access the current Law Library which is located in the attic at the Justice Center and to also possibly consider relocation of the library to space on the first floor of the Justice Center. The Committee would be an advisory committee that will make recommendations to the court.
This committee would be tasked with interviewing prospective architects to achieve the goal established above. After the committee has interviewed the architectural firms, they would bring a recommendation to the commissioner court. We would then bring another item before the court to authorize expenditure of the funds. The monies for the law library are collected through the District Clerk, it is an additional fee on top of filing fees.
Per Ashlie Blaylock, County Budget Officer, the county has budgeted $250K in this line item,
01-0350-0680-005758 and we currently have $178,343.16 remaining YTD.
The law library unreserved fund balance is currently $590,894.54.
Recommended committee members are:
Tommy L. Coleman, Assistant District Attorney (Chairman)
Honorable Burt Carnes, Presiding Judge of the 368th District Court
Lisa David, District Clerk
Jay Schade, Director-Information Technology Services
Margo Fox, Attorney
Leslie Bradley, Georgetown Public Library
Julie Kiley, First Assistant County Auditor (Ex officio)
Tommy Coleman has spoke with the perceptive members and all have agree to serve on the committee.
