Receive presentation on and recognize work on a project at Twin Springs Preserve by the San Gabriel District Lodge of the Order of the Arrow, Tonkawa Chapter (Chapter 99), Boy Scouts of America.

Background

For more than 90 years, the Order of the Arrow (OA) has recognized Scouts and Scouters who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. This recognition provides encouragement for others to live these ideals as well. Arrowmen are known for maintaining camping traditions and spirit, promoting year-round and long term resident camping, and providing cheerful service to others. OA service, activities, adventures, and training for youth and adults are models of quality leadership development and programming that enrich and help to extend Scouting to America's youth.

By pursuing work projects of benefit to the community, especially for outdoor activities, the Order of the Arrow seeks to "crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others."

With a donation from the Lower Colorado River Authority of large utility poles the San Gabriel District Chapter, Order of the Arrow, Tonkawa Lodge, designed and completed a pedestrian bridge over the lower spring run of the Twin Springs. The bridge will provide access over the spring run and is an integral part of the pathways through the preserve.

The Scouts dedicated their work in memory of long time Scouter, Verl Austin Underwood, whose OA Vigil name, "Achpamsin," translates as "Hiker."
