Williamson County was awarded $611,600.00 through a DOE Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant. The amount was allocated through program formulas using 2007 U. S. Census population figures. The grant application approved by the Commissioners Court includes energy lighting efficiency upgrades in the amount of $181,085; $261,075 for five propane infrastructure sites; and $166,440 for the incremental costs associated with propane fleet vehicles and two Park Department Bobcats. In addition, the County was allowed $3,000.00 pre-award costs for development of an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy that was required in the grant.
The buildings approved for lighting upgrades include $63,370.86 for the Justice Center Parking Garage; $63,398.21 for the Jail; $39,316.37 for the Central Texas Treatment Center; and $15,000 for the gym at the Juvenile Justice Center. The grant assistance agreement was received on December 14, 2009.
Propane infrastructure sites are to be located at County sites in Granger, Florence, Taylor, Georgetown (Central), and West Side (Leander, Cedar park or Liberty Hill). An additional propane infrastructure site will be placed at the new Round Rock Annex, but this is through participation in the Texas Railroad Commissions grant as a sub recipient. |
