The main purpose of April Pools Day is to educate the public on drowning prevention and related water safety issues. In edition to educating the public on drowning prevention, April Pools Day promotes water safety in the way of preventing water-borne illnesses such as Cryptosporidiosis, Norovirus and Shigellosis. These water-borne illnesses are very common in Williamson County and are difficult to eliminate. In 2005 and 2006, the incidence of Cryptosporidiosis in Williamson County was much higher than in Texas and the United States.
