Consider approval of Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Leander to enable the Leander Police Department to participate in the Regional Communications System, pending complete execution of the Radio Communications System Interlocal Agreement by all agencies.

Background

The Leander Police Department wishes to participate in the Regional Communications System, utilizing the simulcast digital trunked 800 MHz radio system, and to begin operation on the system as soon as possible. Until the Interlocal Agreement for the system has been executed by all parties (which should complete within the next two weeks or less), this MOU will allow the Leander Police Department to utilize the system. Upon full execution of the ILA, a different agreement will be executed by Leander and other new participants. The MOU provides for, among other things, Leander to pay normal usage fees until the new agreement is in place. The MOU has been developed and approved by the County Attorney, and was scheduled to be heard and approved by the Leander City Council on March 20, 2008.
