Discuss and take appropriate action on the recognition of Melissa Hightower, Chief Investigator for the Williamson County Attorney’s Office, for receiving the 2014 Chuck Dennis Investigator of the Year Award from the Texas District and County Attorney Association.

Background

The Chuck Dennis Investigator of the Year Award is given annually to an Investigator who works in a Prosecutors office and who embodies the commitment of law enforcement to serve others, serve his/her office and maintain an active participation in the TDCAA.
Melissa Hightower has worked for the Williamson County Attorney’s Office for over 16 years, has been a certified peace officer for 20 years and a member of TDCAA for 17 years, during which time she served two terms as chairman of the board of the Investigators Section. In 2006 Melissa was honored with the association’s Oscar Sherrell Award for service to the Prosecutor profession and has worked on training materials and planning sessions for new investigators in prosecutor’s offices across the state for 10 years. Melissa provides training for numerous police academies, TDCAA, NDAA, and many other local community programs and was recently invited by TDCAA to write a more comprehensive training manual for investigators. The manual, “Case Preparation for Investigators”, went to print in November 2014, and will be distributed to new investigators who attend TDCAA’s investigator training.
