Discuss and consider approving a stipend for MOT

Background

Since mid-December MOT has been down two full-time slots, both due to FMLA circumstances. MOT is requesting an $80 per shift stipend for current employees who are willing to pick up/work a double shift. We calculate that roughly 52 additional shifts could/will be picked up during each quarter. Some employees have been working these double shifts since mid-December, but it has taken nearly a month to work out logistics on how to compensate the employees for this additional time worked. In calculating 52 shifts at $80/shift, we arrive at $4,160 plus $802 for FICA and retirement bringing the grand total needed to $4,962 to pay this stipend quarterly. Currently, because of one of the above FMLA situations and unpaid leave, the MOT budget has $3,000 to cover the costs above. Therefore, we are requesting $1,962 from the Court to cover additional shifts worked effective January 21st, 2011. Should this item be approved and because of the dynamics involved, we will address the court quarterly if additional funds are needed.
