Consider authorizing request for traffic control for "Spokes 'N Spurs" 5th annual benefit bicycle ride to be held on Saturday, March 14th, 2009.

Background

This is the 5th annual bicycle ride, benefiting Spririt Reins, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing hope and healing to at-risk youth, families in crisis, and foster families through creative, hands-on therapeutic programs combining the healing power of horses with the beauty of the Texas Hill Country. There are between 700 and 1,000 riders expected to attend the event. A safety plan has been established, including SAG (Suport and Gear) vehicles to cruise the routes to assist cyclists that may have mechanical trouble or need assistance. Officer Mike Gleason has reviewed the safety plan and is recommending four officers for the event. The previous events held have been successful and without incident.
