Discuss and take appropropriate action regarding renewal of UnitedHealthcare AARP Medicare Supplement Plan sponsorship.
Background
Williamson County's Retiree Health Plan coverage ends at age 65.
Based on the Local Government Code Section 175, RIGHT OF CERTAIN MUNICIPAL AND COUNTY EMPLOYEES TO PURCHASE CONTINUED HEALTH COVERAGE AT RETIREMENT, a county or municipality may substitute Medicare supplement health benefits coverage as the coverage provided for a person who receives health benefits coverage under this chapter, including a dependent, after the date that the person becomes eligible for federal Medicare benefits.
For this reason, Williamson County sponsors a group medicare supplement offering to retirees and retiree dependents age 65 and older. By sponsoring this offering, the County arranges to provide plan information to a retiree or retiree dependent. The coverage is entirely paid for by the retiree or retiree dependent. There is no direct cost to the County for sponsoring this offering of the UnitedHealthcare AARP Medicare Supplement Plan that allows us to comply with the local government code requirements.
