Hear presentation regarding Williamson County participation in Children's Mental health Initiative (CMHI) Grant.
Background
The US Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration - Children's Mental Health Initiative (CMHI) Grant applications are due on January 15, 2009. A large collaboration of organizations have been working on an application for this grant opportunity. Some of the group organizing the application include the school districts of Round Rock, Georgetown, Leander, and Taylor, Bluebonnet Trails MHMR, Juvenile Services, Texas Department of Family & Protective Serivces/Children's Protective Services, Lonestar Circle of Care, Texas Baptist Children's Home/Starry, WCCHD, Children's Advocacy Center, Lifesteps, MOT and more. The school districts of Granger, Coupland, and Thrall have agreed to participate as long as in-kind matches may be used. Liberty Hill will also be asked to participate. There will be an estimated 17 awards nationwide to participate in the 6 year grant that could bring up to 9 million dollars into the communities that are awarded. If awarded, the grant would provide services to the children and youth of Williamson County that have serious emotional disturbance and require the services of more than one agency. By the agencies collaborating and providing better and more efficient services, it is believed that the outcome can be: Reduced commitment to state custody, reduced juvenile court encounters, reduced utilization of hospital residential placements, improved child mental health, and improved ability of the child to function in family, school and community environments. Bluebonnet Trails has agreed to be the fiscal agent for the grant and no monetary match is required from the County for this grant. Dale Rye has reviewed and approved the document.
