Discuss, consider and take appropriate action on presentation on Williamson County Veterans Treatment Court and application to Texas Veterans Commission's 2016-17 Veterans Treatment Court Grant.
Background
The 83rd Legislature established the Veterans Treatment Court as defined in Title 2, Subtitle K, Chapter 124 of the Texas Government Code. The Williamson County Veterans Treatment Court became operational in March 2015 and is funded primarily through a grant from the Governor's Office. During the 84th Legislature, the General Appropriations Act appropriated funds to the Texas Veterans Commission for a Veterans Treatment Court Grant program. $1.2 million was appropriated to this grant program for eligible Veterans Treatment Courts that assist Texas Veterans and their families in obtaining services using a non-adversarial approach that promotes public safety, while protecting the due process rights of program participants.
