Discuss and take appropriate action to appoint Lt. James Carmona of the Williamson County Sheriff's Office to the county's Benefits Committee as a voting member.

Background

The commissioner's court approved as part of the 2010-2011 Budget Order, the addition of two new members to the Benefits Committee to represent the employees. Following the action, the current Benefits Committee decided to recommend that one of the new positions be designated for a law enforcement employee and one for a civilian employee. Furthermore, the committee solicited applications for the position from all employees. Only one law enforcement employee submitted an application, Lt. James Carmona. Lt. Carmona has successfully served as a non-voting member for over a year, faithfully attending meetings and training, participating in discussions and representing the law enforcement personnel that work for Williamson County.

Since he is the only applicant for the law enforcement position, Commissioner Birkman recommends approval of Lt. Carmona now so he can attend the last scheduled Benefits Committee meeting of the year, to be held on Nov. 18th, as a voting member. Lt. Carmona's application is attached.

As to the other positions, interviews will be held with the applicants and we expect to have a recommendation soon.
