Discuss and take appropriate action to approve a resolution nominating Judge Gattis to serve on the Urban Counties Board of Directors as Vice Chairman of Policy.

Background

Harris County Commissioner Sylvia Garcia has been nominated as Chairman-Elect for the Texas Conference of Urban Counties. New nominees for the Urban Counties Board of Directors include: Williamson County Judge Dan Gattis; San Patricio County Commissioner Fred Nardini; Jefferson County Commissioner Eddie Arnold; and Denton County Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell.

As previous Chairman-Elect, Dallas County Commissioner Mike Cantrell will assume the Chairmanship for the upcoming term.

The full slate of nominees for election to the Urban Counties Board of Directors is as follows:

? Chairman: Mike Cantrell, Commissioner, Dallas County
? Chairman-Elect: Sylvia Garcia, Commissioner, Harris County
? Vice-Chairman of Policy: Dan Gattis, Judge, Williamson County
? Vice-Chairman of Membership: Tommy Adkisson, Commissioner, Bexar County
? Vice-Chairman of Finance: Fred Nardini, Commissioner, San Patricio County
? Vice-Chairman of Administration: Eddie Arnold, Commissioner, Jefferson County
? Vice-Chairman of Education: Bobbie Mitchell, Commissioner, Denton County

The slate of nominees will be considered by the membership in attendance at the next Urban Counties luncheon on November 19, 2009, in San Antonio, during the Riverwalk 2009 Education and Policy Conference. The board members will serve a two-year term expiring December 31, 2011.

The Nominating Committee Chairman, Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley, extends his sincere appreciation to all members who provided input or offered their leadership services to the association. The Urban Counties is blessed to have so many capable leaders available.
