Discuss and take appropriate action concerning sponsoring retiree health coverage plan for Williamson County retirees over age 65.
Background
The Williamson County Benefits Committee is recommending that Williamson County sponsor the AARP Medicare Supplement, Medicare Rx and Zero Premium Medicare Advantage plans proposed by United Retiree Solutions. These proposed plans will be offered to all Williamson County retirees and eligible dependents age 65 and over in compliance with the Local Government Code Section 175.
Local Government Code Section 175 requires counties with a population of 75,000 or more to provide retirees an option for purchasing continued health coverage for themselves and their eligible dependents if they do not have coverage available through another employer plan. At this time, the Committee is recommending that we only sponsor the United Retiree Solutions health plan offering shown on the attached proposal comparison table. All premiums will be paid by the retiree and dependents. Please note that Williamson County will not incur any direct costs for sponsoring this health plan option.
