Information
Agenda Item
Discuss and take appropriate action on State mental health crisis funding.
Background
The State has allocated $82 million in crisis money, with the majority to be distrubuted through the local mental health authority (Bluebonnet Trails MHMR).   The funding is to be used for crisis services, and specifically the creation of mobile outreach teams and crisis hotlines that must be accredited by the American Association of Suicidology.   The allocation cannot supplant dollars currently being spent on these items, but it is allowable to expand or add additional services to the existing services.  Since Williamson County already has an existing Mobile Outreach Team (MOT), the Mental Health Committee recommends avoiding duplication of services and contracting with Bluebonnet Trails to expand the services of our existing MOT.   The State crisis allocation to Bluebonnet for Williamson County is approximately $150,000.  The funding will allow for the addition of a psychiatric RN to the team, which will help the County be in compliance with the State MOT standards.  All salary, benefits, and associated costs with the position (such as vehicle, computer, etc.) will be covered through the crisis funding.   Funding will also be required to bring the existing hotline up to the necessary accredited standards.  No additional funding will be required from Williamson County for these expansion plans.
