Discuss and consider recognizing the Williamson County Purchasing Office as the recipient of the 2012 Achievement of Excellence in Public Purchasing Award as determined by the following National Purchasing Organizations: National Procurement Institute (NPI), Institute for Supply Management (ISM), Institute for Public Procurement, National Association of State Procurement Officials (NASPO), the National Association of Educational Procurement (NAEP), the National Institute for Governmental Purchasing (NIGP); and the following State Organizations: California Association of Public Procurement Officials (CAPPO), the Florida Association of Public Procurement Officials (FAPPO), the Texas Public Purchasing Association (TxPPA).
Background
In 1995, the National Procurement Institute, Inc. (NPI) established a program designed to recognize organizational excellence in public procurement. The Achievement of Excellence in Procurement® (AEP) is awarded annually. This prestigious award is earned by those organizations that demonstrate excellence by obtaining a high score based on standardized criteria. The criteria are designed to measure innovation, professionalism, productivity, e-procurement, and leadership attributes of the procurement organization.

The Achievement of Excellence in Procurement award is nationally and internationally recognized as the gold standard for the achievement of excellence, innovation and best practices in the profession of public procurement. The award criteria have evolved since the award’s inception to reflect changes that have occurred in areas such as technology, all the while maintaining the high standards and insistence on public procurement best practices that the award is known for.

The 2012 award represents the 13th consecutive year that Williamson County has achieved this prestigious honor and recognition. Moreover, Williamson County is one of only 10 counties in the United States and one of 22 public entities nationwide that has consistently been recognized for this achievement of excellence since the new millennium began.

The Achievement of Excellence in Procurement award accurately and objectively reflects the health of the County’s procurement function. It validates the fact that the Williamson County Purchasing Office is dedicated to providing these professional services in the most innovative and cost efficient manner possible.
