Discuss, consider and take any appropriate action regarding contract termination for Services Contract for Purchase and Installation of Fire Alarm Equipment for Juvenile Detention Center with SimplexGrinnell and authorize the County Judge to execute notice of same.
Background
In preparation of opening the new post-adjudication secure female unit the department was told by the Fire Code Plans Examiner that we would need to have an electronic push-bar installed as a means of egress in case of emergency. Based on that information the department submitted a purchase order for the required work, which resulted in the generation and signing of a contract for the services. The contract was placed on the Commissioner's Court Agenda on 11/18/2014 and approved at that time. Since that time, the Fire Inspector has been to the facility and stated the electronic push bars were not necessary and that a key lock on the doors would be sufficient to meet fire code. Based on that information, we are requesting that the contract with SimplexGrinnell be cancelled.
