Hear presentation from and recognize Eagle Scout candidate James B. (Trey) Swenson, III, for his Eagle Scout project work on a pedestrian crossing gate tying the County's Twin Springs Preserve hiking loop path to the US Army Corps of Engineers Goodwater Trail around Lake Georgetown.

Background

Life Scout Trey Swenson approached the Parks and Recreation Department and the Williamson County Conservation Foundation about an appropriate service project to meet the requirement for his Eagle Scout Rank. This agenda item provides an opportunity for Trey to relate his experience in working with Williamson County and for the Court to recognize his work and achievements.

Requirement #5 for the rank of Eagle Scout states in part, "While a Life Scout, plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, any school, or your community. (The project should benefit an organization other than Boy Scouting.) The project plan must be approved by the organization benefiting from the effort, your Scoutmaster and troop committee, and the council or district before you start."

As a demonstration of leadership, the Scout must plan the work, organize the personnel needed, and direct the project to its completion. More than a million Boy Scouts and half a million adult volunteers contribute 50 million service hours a year in projects across the United States.

Trey's project required a significant amount of planning and coordination including contacts with the US Army Corps of Engineers to make certain his work was acceptable not only to the County but also met construction standards for the USACoE.
