Discuss and take action on adopting a resolution requesting the Williamson County Appraisal District to conduct a reappraisal of Property Damaged in a Natural Disaster Area-Wildfires in Leander, Tx.

Background

The appraisal district contacted the county and informed us of the ability to adopt such a resolution. If property damaged in a natural disaster is reappraised; the taxes must be prorated on the property for the year in which the disaster occurred. The taxes on the property would be based on its value as of January 1 of 2011 and be prorated to the new value based on the date of disaster occurence.

Currently, the Leander Indpendent School District has expressed interest in conducting a re-evaluation of properties that were damaged.

There will be no charge by the appraisal district to conduct these reappraisals.
