Agenda Item
Discuss and consider approving a Grade/Step change for the position of Assistant Academy Director with the Juvenile Services Department
Background
We are respectfully requesting the Commissioner’s Court to approve the new hire for the Academy Assistant Director position grade 25 steps 7-9 to be funded at step 9($52,237.09) . The reasons include turn over three times in the past 1.5 years with a reduction of salary of 15% if funded at step 7. In addition, the other two Assistant Directors in the organization ( Detention and Financial) are both new hires in their positions within the last year and are funded at a grade 27 4-6. While the grade is lower for the Assistant Academy Director, there is room to ensure the salary is equivalent under the current budget. The person who has been selected to fill the Academy Assistant Director position has advanced qualifications with a masters in counseling and has previous experience as a program director and clinical director for residential programs. Finally, our Recreation Therapist who is subordinate to the Assistant Academy Director and who is also a licensed professional counselor is funded as a grade 25 step 9.
