Discuss and take possible action regarding approval of a resolution in support of the Upper Brushy Creek WCID Flood Protection Planning Grant Application to the Texas Water Development Board.

Background

The UBC WCID will be applying for a Flood Protection Planning Grant from the Texas Water Development Board to fund a study of the Brushy Creek watershed from our jurisdictional limits downstream on the creek near Hutto to the headwaters near Leander. The District is asking for the state grant to fund approximately 30% of the project cost, and the District will fund the remaining local share. The project is anticipated to cost approximately $1.2 million and will provide watershed-based hydrologic and hydraulic models of current and future conditions on the main creek and most of its tributaries. It will also develop alternatives for regional flood reduction projects which address current and future flooding issues in the watershed.

We are not asking for any money from our partners; however, we are asking for letters or resolutions of support from the five primary cities (Austin, Cedar Park, Hutto, Leander, Round Rock) and the county in order to show the TWDB that we will have participation on a Technical Review Committee from the regulatory/permitting authorities in the watershed. Participation in the study does not commit the partners to implement any of the recommended projects: however, the intention of the study is to provide solutions for flooding that can be readily implemented by the partners.

The grant application is due to the state on January 20, 2011.
