Agenda Item
Present the action taken with respect to the petition for a local option election seeking to legalize the sale of alcoholic beverages issued by the Elections Administrator on September 19, 2007.
Background
Application was made and a petition was issued for the purpose of submitting to the legally qualified voters of the City of Georgetown, Williamson County, Texas, the following issue, to-wit:  For/Against The legal sale of beer and wine.  The petition submitted to the Elections Administrator did not contain the required number of signatures to go forward with the process of ordering a local option election.  Pursuant to Sec. 501.033 of the Texas Election Code, if the petition does not contain the required number of signatures, it must be recorded in the minutes of Commissioners Court.  The minutes shall reflect the date a petition is filed with the Elections Administrator, the names of the signers, and the action taken with respect to the petition.  It is the opinion of the Secretary of State that a reference to the signers' names contained on the petition is sufficient.
